I just learned from my daughter, who is currently visiting Israel, that Israelis use the phrase "Sylvester Sameach" (Happy "Sylvester")after the patron saint of the Gregorian Calendar's New Year's Day, emphasizing the celebration's Christian underpinnings and differentiating it from Rosh Hashanah.
