April is the 4th month of the Gregorian calendar and one of the 4 months that are 30 days long. The origin of the name “April” is uncertain. The traditional etymology is from the Latin word “aperire” which means “to open” and may allude to the “opening” of trees and buds in spring. April is also associated with the Greek goddess Aphrodite.

April’s Birthstone is Diamond:
The diamond is the ultimate gemstone. It is the hardest substance found in nature. It has a broad color range, high refraction, high dispersion or fire, very low reactivity to chemicals, rarity, and of course, extreme hardness and durability.
Diamonds are found in a type of rock called "Kimberlite", which comprises the core of certain volcanoes. Diamonds are formed deep within the earth's mantle, and brought to the surface during volcanic eruptions. This hard stone is mined and then crushed between giant steel rollers. Amazingly, the Kimberlite is reduced to fine gravel, yet the extremely hard diamonds come out unharmed. Typically, a single carat of diamond is recovered from a ton of rich ore. Diamonds are found in many areas including South Africa, Russia, and even in Arkansas in the USA.
April’s Flower is the Daisy:
The April birth flower is the daisy. Daisies are associated with innocence. There is a legend that a nymph wanting to escape unwanted attention transformed herself into the daisy. An alternate birth flower for April is the sweet pea.
